![]() So I rolled back all of the configuration and this time set discrete only in gfxCardStatus. Not being able to use an external monitor is a deal breaker for me. I tried connected to my TV and found the same thing. Then I connected an external monitor to the display port and the system didn't even recognize it. The good news is, that I was running on the HD4000 only, the latest Hip chat worked, and it would even properly suspend. Presto! I was able to power down the nvidia card and it worked this time! Not only that, but glxinfo reported the Intel driver in the Open GL vendor string. I carefully followed all of the information, rebooted into OS X, set integrated only in gfxCardStatus, and then booted Linux. I went back and followed the second link above, and I even found this (which is likely where the author of that post got the instructions): Luckily I still had another initrd/kernel to boot from so I could remove the nvidia driver. ![]() This caused the system to hang on the boot splash every time. Rather than trying to disable the nvidia card, I went the exact opposite route and tried to disable the Intel card, and then install the proprietary nvidia driver. So perhaps the first time around the I had a typo. Do I need to do that prior to setting integrated only with gfxCardStatus? The graphics at least work, but it's still nouveau and I'm no closer to disabling the nvidia card.Īnyone have any suggestions? I have *NOT* yet installed the Intel graphics driver for Linux. So I'm basically back to where I started. That's when I started looking around and found the gfxCardStatus suggestions to force integrated only, but I can't seem to get this to work. I915.lvds_channel_mode=2 i915.modeset=1 i915.lvds_use_ssc=0Įven if I try to echo DIGD into the switch file as the wiki says, it always seems to reboot with the nvidia card/nouveau driver active. Additionally, I passed in the following options at boot time so that vgaswitcheroo works: I have rolled back all of my changes except I left gfxCardStatus 2.2.1 installed in OS X. Currently I'm running the nouveau driver:Ġ0:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)Ġ1:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M (rev a1)Ĭlient glx vendor string: Mesa Project and SGI So clearly it's an issue with the graphics driver but I'm not sure what I need to do. After entering my password, sure it enough it rebooted. It's clearly running as I was able to enter my password, CTRL+ALT+T, and then run sudo reboot. ![]() In fact, when I set integrated only, Ubuntu just boots up to a blank screen (just like my issues above). ![]() I have tried both 2.2.1 and 2.3 and setting it to integrated only doesn't work for me. The final link suggests that using an older version of gfxCardStatus resolved the problem, but this still isn't working for me. I have tried following these pages for advice: ![]() I'm hoping it will resolve an issue with the newer versions of Hip Chat (graphics are all garbled). I'm hoping it will resolve an issue with disconnecting my external monitor while running (which turns the laptop screen blank - see issue #1). The screen is just blank (though the system is clearly on) and the only thing I can do is hold the power button. Returning from suspend/hibernate doesn't work. I'm trying to disable the nvidia card under Ubuntu for a few reasons: It's my work laptop so I don't need it for gaming or anything of that nature. I'm running Ubuntu 13.10 on a MBP 9,1 (via rEFInd). ![]()
